Gretchen Kempf

October 28, 2008 — April 4, 2018

Gretchen Kempf, sister of Gabi Kempf, therapy dog at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, died Tuesday, Wednesday, April 4, 2018 after a 3 month battle with cancer.

Gretchen was born (along with her sister Gabi into the Mark and Paige Ducheney household with their many other brother and sisters on October 28, 2008, all ready to go to new homes in our community.

Gretchen came home with Craig on Christmas Day 2008 and immediately became part of the funeral home's family, along with her sister Gabi who went home with Sue that same day. ( Actually, these two girls started the relationship that became the marriage creating Craig and Sue Kempf. "That's a special gal that loves a dog like that" said Craig. But that's a story for another day!)

Gretchen, with sister Gabi , came to work at the funeral home right away. Gretchen just knew when someone was hurting, and with no formal training, became great therapy to those in grief being served by the Kempf's . She loved adults and children alike, but had a wonderful way with children. Other dogs, not always so much! She was always her sister's defender, whether Gabi wanted or needed it!

Gretchen met many grieving families at the door and stayed with them through their funeral arrangements. She had a great sense for somone in pain and knew just what to do for them.

Gretchen loved swimming in Lyon Lake and Lake Charlevoix. Running in the woods and any field was always something she was up to. She loved playing with her sister daily! She helped push Craig out the door daily, where ever they were, to take a ride in the truck. Gretchen enjoyed many coffee hours at the Marshall Fire Department and Marshall Firefighters Ambulance Authority. She traveled long distance like a champ and was the designated "bed fluffer" at the hotel!

Gretchen is survived by her sister Gabi, her puppy parents Craig and Sue, and her extended family of Kempf family and Kempf Funeral Home family.
