Ernest “Ernie” Bedard
Bedard, Ernest “Ernie”, age 83 of Marshall, MI, was born June 6, 1938, in Detroit, MI, and passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Puhl Bedard, his children, Brigette (Rick) Murphy-Barbee, Deidre (Doug) Smith, Nicole Bedard (deceased), Aimée Bedard, Danielle (Bob) Mallon, and his stepchildren, Eric (Jennifer) Puhl, Mark (Angie Cerne) Puhl, and Jason (Kristen) Puhl. Also, his grandchildren, Caitlin and Michaela (deceased) Murphy, Stuart (Rebecca), Patrick (Riley), Madeline, and Emma Smith, and Maxwell, Josephine, Charlotte, Leah, Evan, and Anna Puhl; and his great-grandson son SJ Smith.
He is also survived by his siblings Mary (Bob, deceased) Wendt, and Frank (Lisa) Bedard, and his former wife, Judy Weipert Bedard, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Edna, and his siblings, Melvin Bedard, Geraldine Wszola, and Eleanor Lewis.
Ernie was hard working, and his careers included hair stylist, hair salon owner, iron worker, landscaper, and Catholic Deacon. He attended St. Brigid’s grade school, Cathedral Central high school, both in Detroit, and iron worker trade school. Ernie pursued and was accomplished in his many areas of interest. Ernie had a wonderful voice and was not shy about sharing his talents in church. He was active in youth ministry for many years and had a deep and abiding faith. He was the ultimate handyman working on his historical home in Marshall where he and Pat loved to comb estate sales, antique auctions, and Bybee Pottery looking for treasures. Ernie loved exploring hardware stores, greenhouses, and Eastern Market in Detroit. He was a Master Gardener focused on growing orchids, and award-winning mums and dahlias. Ernie and Pat loved Old English Sheepdogs and shared two in their twenty-six-year marriage, rescuing Winston 8 years ago.
Visitation will take place from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. Following the visitation, a Rosary service will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021, at St. Philip Catholic Church, 112 Capital Ave, NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017, with a luncheon to follow. Private interment will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
