Donna Lee (Walling) Howk, age 65, of Marshall died Monday morning, April 1, 2019 at her home in the loving care of her family.
Mrs. Howk was born on October 18, 1953 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Charles D. and Anna Lee (Morgan) Walling. Donna was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, class of 1971. For may years, Donna owned and operated a small business in the Battle Creek area, traveling to area flea markets to sell antiques and jewelry. She was a Master Gardener and had worked on projects which landscaped downtown Battle Creek and other area parks and residences. She worked with the grounds department at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds by landscaping new areas they have added. She also did floral arrangements for the Fredonia Grange for special occasions. Donna had been employed by the Horrock's Farm Market store in Battle Creek as the manager of the outdoors department.
On January 4, 2004, she married Thomas "Tom" Howk.
Donna had been a very active member of the Family Community Education (F.C.E.) serving two terms as President and one term as the Secretary. In 2010, she received the Heart Of FCE Award for her endless dedication to the organization. Alongside her husband, Tom, the couple headed up the annual car show in Marshall for twenty years. Donna served on the Church Board for the Marshall Seventh-Day Adventist Church and taught Bible study lessons. She served as a DORCAS Society volunteer as well as volunteering with the Women's Auxiliary at Oaklawn Hospital.
Donna was very artistic and enjoyed painting in watercolors and oils. She also enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. She loved animals and shared her home with 6 rescue dogs. She enjoyed fishing, spending as much time outdoors as possible and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; a daughter, Tamara (Ramberto) Bastell of Battle Creek; a son, John (Mary) Headley of Ceresco; step-children, G. Joy Dally of Hubble, TX and T. Corby Howk of Marshall; 5 grandchildren, Jaxson, John Jr., Sarah, Sandy and Mikie; and 3 great grandchildren; a special aunt, Pat Wilbanks; and brothers, Charles Walling of Battle Creek, James Walling of Battle Creek and Randy Walling of Battle Creek.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Lee Morgan.
Private services will be held for the family at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Donna Howk Memorial Fund, checks payable to Tom Howk. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
