Darrell P. Rapp

August 1, 1926 — May 15, 2019

Darrell P. Rapp, 92, of Marshall died on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Family Matters Adult Foster Care in Olivet following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Darrell was born on August 1, 1926 in Convis Township to Preston and Gladys (Huggett) Rapp. He graduated from Marshall High School. In 1944, Darrell was drafted in the United States Army. He was stationed in California serving as a military police officer. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On February 14, 1947 he married Treva McCoy in Marshall at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage.
One of Darrell's greatest gifts was knowing how to enjoy life and its simple pleasures. He was generous with his time and was always willing to help a neighbor, family member or friend in need. He and Treva built their home using lumber milled from trees they harvested on their property. Darrell worked as a welder for Clark Equipment in Battle Creek for 30 years retiring in 1984. After his retirement, he helped his neighbor on their dairy farm, and was the sexton for the cemeteries in Convis Township for many years. He attended Cross Roads Church in Marshall and volunteered many hours at their food pantry. Darrell enjoyed the outdoors and spent many an enjoyable day hunting, ice fishing, and looking for mushrooms with his family. Darrell liked staying busy and was quite creative; he could often be found in his workshop fixing or making a new piece of equipment to make any job easier. He took pride in all of his work.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Treva of Marshall; children, Sharon Tooker of Marshall, David Rapp of Washington, and Sheila (Matt) Crawford of Marshall; four grandchildren, Mike Tooker, Michelle Tooker, Trenton Crawford, and Grace Crawford; and siblings, Keith Rapp, Darlene Dally both of Marshall, and June Allen of Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Mark Tooker; and siblings, Norman Rapp, Mary Ward, Bruce Rapp, and Donald Rapp.
The family would like to thank Cari Montague, Candy Kelley, Autumn Marshall, and Carly Miller for the loving care they gave Darrell during the final months of his illness.
