Darlene E. Coats, 85, of Olivet died on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at her home.
Darlene was born on August 30, 1933 in Marshall to Harry and Esther (Rapp) Miller. She graduated from Olivet High School in 1951. On May 10, 1963 she married Paul Coats in Eaton Rapids. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1991.
Darlene worked for Southern Michigan Insurance Company for many years in Marshall. She retired in 1998. She also worked short time at Michigan National Bank. Darlene enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Spending time with her family was special to her, and she always tried to support her grandchildren in all of their activities. Darlene always sent cards for everyone's birthday not just to the family but to all of her friends too. She will be remembered as a kind, caring, compassionate and loving person and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Andy (Linda) Weaver of Edgerton, Ohio, Debra (Rich Shilling) Farmer of Olivet, Robert (Tina Galusha) Coats of Olivet, Larry Coats of Lansing, Paul (Sue) Coats of Bellevue; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her companion Jim Harris; sisters, Shirley Lawler and Dorothy Stults both of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children Phyllis Sharp, Mary Coats, and Jane Cunningham; great-grandson Michael Farmer; sisters, Betty Faulkner, Marian Heisler, Margaret Miller, Mildred Foote, Mary Lou Duckham, and Sandra Place; and her brothers, Harry, Robert, Laverne Miller.
Family will gather with friends from 1-4pm on Sunday December 30, 2018 at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family and Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US 27 North. Funeral services celebrating her life will take place at 10:30am on Monday December 31, 2018 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Marshall Chapel with Mr. Jacob Washburn officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Family will gather with friends following the committal services at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Marshall Reception Hall. Family requests memorial contributions to Saint Jude Children Hospital or to Make A Wish Foundation. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
