Daniel McKeever

August 13, 1947 ~ October 15, 2019 (age 72)

The world has lost an extraordinary man. Daniel O'Leary (Vandal) McKeever lost a fiercely fought battle with heart disease on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Dan was born on August 13, 1947 in Flint, Michigan to Mildred and Raymond McKeever. He attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School for 10 years and graduated from Flint Southwestern in 1966. Dan met the love of his life, Marcia Crockett, in 1972 and they were married five years later on October 22, 1977. Their journey included the birth of two beautiful daughters, Dana Marie and Kara June. Dan lovingly called them Marcia and the Vandellas.

Dan spent his entire career (35) working for HRC (Hubbell, Roth and Clark), a civil engineering firm in the Detroit area. He not only loved his job but made life-long friendships with his boss, co-workers and many of the clients they served.

Dan had a unique gift for making friends. Marcia calls it his "gift of gab". This is evident in the outpouring of condolences that his family has received from elementary school friends, fraternity brothers, golf buddies, athletic competitors, Woodstock alumni, work peers, as well as many of the medical personnel that crossed his path as he fought heart disease.

In addition to his family, his passions included sports of all kinds, especially basketball and golf. He often said, "The two sweetest sounds in sports were the swish of a basketball and the click of the sweet spot when teeing off with his driver." He absolutely adored music and had a wanderlust which led to a lifetime of adventure and fun. Sometimes all of these passions would collide, their intersection leading to trips to Woodstock, to see The Rolling Stones at Altamont, and to living in amazing places like Newport Beach, a cabin in the mountains of Colorado, and on the Haight-Ashbury in the late 60s. He wasn't afraid to muck it up... like he always use to say, "Have Rock, Will Throw."

Dan adored his daughters, Dana and Kara and was extremely happy to welcome their husbands, Richie and Matt into the family-a new audience for his stories. Dan's life only got better when he and Marcia were blessed with their two precious grandchildren, Archer and Beatrix Huggett.

This past spring Dan and Marcia bought their dream home in Marshall, Michigan just down the street from extended family. Unbeknownst to them, their talented family had completed a renovation of the house as a surprise. We almost lost Dan on Father's Day, however, his remarkable recovery from heart failure led to the miracle summer of 2019, during which the McKeever family enjoyed the best months of their lives. In the end, Dan decided to donate his mortal remains as a Gift of Knowledge to the Anatomical Donations Program at the University of Michigan. His final resting place will be at the Memorial Garden at U of M Medical Center.

Waiting to greet Dan at the pearly gates are his parents, Mildred and Raymond McKeever, his brothers Michael and Ray, his sister Kathleen, and of course his faithful dogs Dylan and Punch. Celebrating his life while mourning their loss are his wife Marcia, daughters Dana (and husband Richie) Huggett, and Kara (and husband Matt) Martin, as well as his brother David and Eleanor McKeever, and his beloved grandchildren Archer and Beatrix.
