Clarence William Huggett

Clarence "Clink" William Huggett, age 94, of Marshall died Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at his home in the loving care of his family.

Mr. Huggett was born on July 2, 1924 in Wayne, Michigan to Henry Marvin and Hazel Elizabeth (Rapp) Huggett. He moved to Marshall area as a child in 1931 to the family farm in Convis Township.

Mr. Huggett served in the United States Army during World War II and saw action in Germany, France and Czechoslovakia while under General George Patton command. While he was stationed in Germany, he was injured and substantially received a Medical Discharge in 1946, at Brooke General Hospital in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was a Life member of the Marshall V.F.W. Post #4073 and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bellevue.

Upon returning to Marshall, Clink went to work for his father in the family owned business H.M Huggett Contractor. In 1982, he formed with his brother, Russell Huggett, the Huggett Brothers Construction Inc. He continued working in construction after his brothers' death under the name of Huggett Construction and retired in 1996.

Clink's building expertise has had a long and lasting effect on the community of Marshall. Some of the places he either built or worked on are: Shear Gillette, Marshall Flower House, Ronan and Kunzl, Crowell Carton, Pizza Huts, B.E. Henry Building, Michigan Kitchen, Stembol Ford Garage, Farm Bureau, Standard Oil, Mobil Station, Marshall Lumber, Trimparts, Permabuild, Woodlin Metal and Built Makers Grocery Store.

On April 28, 1951, he married the former Mary Ann Finnegan in Albion at the St. Johns Catholic Church with Father Elmer Grogan Officiating. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2018.

Mr. Huggett was survived by children, Elaine R. (Gordon) Huggett-Coats of Marshall, Joan E. (Douglas) Huggett-Kinney of Morehead City, NC, William J. (Cindy Loyd) Huggett Sr. of Marshall and Steven D. (Corinna) Huggett Sr. of Marshall; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; brothers, James Huggett and Charles Huggett; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephew.

Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Hazel Huggett; his wife, Mary Ann Huggett; brothers, Russell Huggett Sr. and Richard M. Huggett, Thomas Huggett and Kenneth Lee Huggett.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 PM to 8 PM at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall. A Rosary service will be held at 7 PM Monday evening. A funeral Mass to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 11 AM Tuesday, Sept 18, 2018 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bellevue. Interment will follow in Austin Cemetery.
