Kathryn Marie Askew, 83, of Pennfield Township died on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, following a short illness.
Kathryn was born on December 13, 1935 in Battle Creek to Charles and Nola (Thornton) Spillane. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1953, and later got her nursing degree from Kellogg Community College. On October 1, 1955 she married Glen Askew at the Convis Union United Methodist Church.
Kathryn was an LPN/RN nurse for 18 years at Leila Hospital in Battle Creek. She retired in 1999. Kathryn did childcare for many years before becoming a nurse, and she worked at Wolverine Insurance Company in Battle Creek. Kathryn was a member of the Convis Union United Methodist Church, Leila Arboretum Master Gardener. She also helped with the Pennfield Township Election Committee. Kathryn enjoyed playing the organ, her pets, gardening, making her own ceramics and reading. Kathryn loved spending time with her family especially time with her grandchildren and great-grandson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Leissa and Craig Turner; grandchildren, Brandon Turner, Kaitlyn Turner, and Stephen Turner; and a great-grandchild, Carson Turner; niece, Patricia Eutsey and nephew, Michael Spillane and his wife, Pamela Spillane. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Irene Leffler and a brother, Howard Spillane.
The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Kempf Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 North, Marshall, MI 49068. Funeral services celebrating her life will take place at 2:30 PM on Sunday December 1, 2019 at the funeral chapel with Reverend Linda Stoddard officiating.
