Earl D. Hoffman, 93, of Marengo Township, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Hoffman was born on October 21, 1919, at home on his parent's farm in Marengo Township to George A. and Mabel E (Medell) Hoffman. He attended Racely School in Marengo Township and then graduate from Marshall High School in 1938.
On November 3, 1944, he married Edwina Jean "Winnie" Sanders. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2003. On November 5, 2006 he married Audrey H. Fletcher-Voogd at the Marshall United Methodist Church. Mr. Hoffman farmed in the Marengo area is whole life, and at one point he farmed over one thousand acres. Along with farming, he also worked for the United States Postal Service for eight years. He later worked for United Steel and Wire in Battle Creek for 36 years retiring in 1974.
Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church, former member of the Marshall Moose Lodge #676 for of 56 years. He enjoyed working and refinishing furniture. In later years, he enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, and he would volunteer as a greeter for the Palm Beach Marine Time Museum on Peanut Island.
He is survived by his wife Audrey of Marengo Township, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his bonus children and grandchildren, a special from a granddaughter nurse in training Megan Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Arthur, Hugh, and Kenneth Hoffman.
Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7pm with family present to greet friends at that time. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at1:30pm on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home with Reverend Patricia Bromberek officiating. Interment will take place at Oakridge Cemetery. Family will gather with friends at the Marshall United Methodist Church following the graveside services. Family requests memorial contributions be made to Oaklawn Hospice, Marshall United Methodist Church, or to the American Heart Association.
