Joyce Ann (Quada) DeShon, age 75, of Battle Creek returned to the arms of the Lord Sunday evening, February 10, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Mrs. DeShon was born on February 20, 1937 in Marshall to Edward and Virginia (Cook) Quada. She was a life long resident of this area. She attended Marshall Public Schools and was a member of the class of 1955. Joyce had been employed by the Kellogg Company for many years and worked in the companies Service Center. She retired in 1995. Other employment included working in the old Ritzee Restaurant in downtown Marshall.
On September 21, 1957, she married David Duane DeShon at the Emmett Street Friends Church. After several years, David converted to Catholicism and the couple renewed their vows in the St. Philip Catholic Church in Battle Creek.
Joyce was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall and a former member of the Riverside country Club. She was a very social person and enjoyed playing golf, dancing and bowling. She had competed in the Kellogg's bowling leagues for many years. Joyce had also been active in the planning of her high school class reunions.
Joyce was always the life of the party where ever she went. She loved to sing karaoke and was a regular at the old Magoo's Restaurant and Lounge in Battle Creek where she often sang Frank Sinatra songs. She was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and never missed a game on the television or radio. Joyce also enjoyed traveling and had special memories of family vacations spent all over the United States. She is remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and for the special way she had of spoiling them all.
She is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Denise (Billy) Lee of Battle Creek and Wendy (Jeff) Martens of Battle Creek; sons, Steve DeShon of Battle Creek and Jeff (Kim) DeShon of Battle Creek; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Fred Quada, Don (Shirley) Quada, Ron (Charlene) Quada, Roy (Dawn) Quada and Roger Quada all of Marshall. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ray Quada.
The family will receive friends from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, Marshall. A Rosary will be held at 6 PM. A funeral Mass to celebrate the gift of her life will be held 11 AM Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall with Reverend Fr. Stephen Naas officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Battle Creek.
