Marjorie A. Dunn

May 26, 1931 — December 15, 2017

Marjorie A. Dunn, age 86, of Convis Township, Marshall, passed away at Maplewood of Marshall on Friday night, December 15, 2017.
Marjorie was born on May 26, 1931 in Maple Grove Township at home to Harvey and Josephine (Buxton) Cheeseman. She grew up at the family farm while attending country school in Maple Grove Township.  She attended Hastings High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1949.
She met Merle Dunn at the Clear Lake Dance Hall while on a night out with friends. Merle asked if he could take Marjorie's friend home, but she was staying with Marjorie. Merle took the two ladies home and the rest became a wonderful history!  Marjorie and Merle were married on June 17, 1950 in her parent's living room.
The newly married couple moved to their new home in Convis Township on 80 acres that same night. They enjoyed a long and fruitful marriage there where they raised their family.  Merle preceded her in death on March 8, 1987.
Marjorie was a "stay at home" mom while their children were growing up, and worked at the May tax sale at the Calhoun Court House every year. She helped Merle with the farm work, pitching right in.  She milked their cows, hayed and everything Merle would do on the farm.  Marjorie ran trap lines on the farm early in their lives and would prepare the fruits of her hunt for her family.  Nothing went to waste.  Her family remembers the wonderful meals she prepared and the outstanding pies!
Marjorie was first elected as Convis Township Treasurer in 1966. She was continually re-elected by her fellow residents until 2000.  That year she chose to step back and become the Deputy Township Treasurer, a position she served in until 2012.   She was a pivotal part of the process of properly managing the revenue to Convis Township from the dump.
Marjorie will be remembered as a selfless and fair public servant, who represented everyone's best interests.
Marjorie and Merle enjoyed the family cabin on Long Lake in Barry County for most of their lives. There Marjorie enjoyed fishing, with and without family.  She loved to travel.  She and Merle got to enjoy fishing trips to Canada.  They traveled to South Carolina's Folly Beach.  In 1970 they traveled to Spain and Africa.  In 1972, the couple traveled to Alaska towing a 13-foot travel trailer, with Merle's sister and her husband along.
She volunteered at Marshall Area Community Services (MACS Inc.) where she prepared food boxes for families that were in need.
Marjorie looked forward to regular breakfast get-togethers with her cousin, and monthly meals with her high school friends, who dubbed themselves "The 49'ers"! A good game of euchre with friends with Merle as her partner was always fun.    When her granddaughter and friends were active in high school athletics, Marjorie was a faithful attendee of the events.  She became "Grandma" to all of them.
She is survived by her son Marvin Dunn of Marshall, daughter and son-in-law Nyla and Clair Stevens of Cloverdale, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Jennifer and Matt Dugan of Greenfield, Indiana, her great granddaughter Bailey Dugan, and great-grandson Jack R. Dugan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harold Cheeseman, 3 children in infancy, and her granddaughter Brenda Dunn.
Friends may call at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, Marshall Chapel, 723 US HWY 27 N., on Monday 5PM-8PM where family will greet friends and share memories.
