Robert "Bob" Thomas

Robert "Bob" Thomas, age 85, of Homer died peacefully at his home on Thursday June 15, 2017 with his family at his side.He was born April 18, 1932, a son of Russell and Doris (Holmes) Thomas in Homer, Michigan. He graduated from Homer High School with the Class of 1950.On March 1, 1952 he married Joyce Ott in Albion. She preceded him in death September 7, 2015. Bob served in the U.S. Navy in 1952. He proudly served 62 years with the Homer Fire Department. Bob worked at Albion Industries retiring in 1999 after 39 years, and also hauled milk for the Michigan Milk Producers Association in his earlier years.He enjoyed gardening, traveling, spending winters in Gulf Shores, AL and summers at Tri-Lake Trails camp ground, puttering in his garage volunteering at the Homer Recycling Center, and enjoyed roundtable mourning coffee with his friends at the Stage Coach in Homer.He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Homer and the Homer Alumni Association and was the Alumni of the year in 2010.Surviving Bob are his daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Bussing of Homer, and Deb (Daryl) Myer of Battle Creek; grandsons, Brad (Kathy) Gill, and Kyle Bussing; granddaughter, Erin Bussing; special buddy and great granddaughter, Brayana Bussing; several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Thomas; and brother, Phillip Thomas.Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday June 24, 2017 from 11 AM to 12 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Homer 309 S. Sophia St., Homer, MI 49245. A memorial service celebrating the life of Bob will take place at 12 PM on Saturday at the Church with Pastor Tim Marvil officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Homer, or Homer Fire Department.
