RICHARD WOODSRichard Woods, age 73, of Marshall died Thursday, February 01, 2007 in Marshall.Mr. Woods was born on December 9, 1933 in Hyden, Thousand Sticks, Kentucky to Ruck and Bertha (Sizemore) Woods. He has been a resident of the Marshall area since 1955, moving here from Kentucky. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army.Richard had been employed by the Eaton Corporation in Marshall for 30 years, retiring in 1993. Prior to working at Eaton''s, he worked for numerous area employers, including Hayes-Albion and St. Regis.In 1960, he marred the former Helen Louise Williams. The marriage ended in divorce. Then on May 18, 1983, he married the former Anna Louise (Gordy) Cortwright in Marshall. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1997.Richard was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge #676. He also belonged to the Eaton Retiree''s Coffee Club, meeting every Friday morning at the Marshall McDonald''s restaurant. Richard a familiar sight at the area ball fields, watching his children playing their various sports. He never missed any of his grandchildren's ball games or dance recitals. He loved his vegetable garden and took painstaking measures to make sure each and every row was perfectly straight and an equal distance from each other. If they were not, he would have them removed and start all over again.He is survived by daughters, Tammy (Dean) Northern and Brenda VanArman; sons, Tim (Janet) Woods and Kevin (Hope) Woods all of Marshall; step-daughter, Linda Bradley of W. VA; grandchildren, Kevin Paul Woods, T.J. Woods, Daniel Woods, Becky Woods, Justin VanArman, Zak VanArman, Chelci Northern and Caitlin Northern; 6 step-grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Sherman Woods of KY and Daniel Woods of Litchfield; sister, Helen Mullins of KY: and special friend, Cheryl Smith. He was preceded in death by sisters, Zuba Begley and Daisy Fee; and brother, Robert Woods.Visitation will be held at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Saturday and Sunday with the family receiving friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday and from 1:00 to 3:00 Sunday. A service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 10:30 Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in West Clarendon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Mayo Clinic. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
