Michael Andrews

March 6, 1980 — October 22, 2010

Michael Andrews, age 30, of Homer, died on October 22, 2010 near McCall, Idaho in an auto accident. Mike was born on March 6, 1980 in Marshall to Richard J. and Julia K. (Metternick) Andrews. He attended Homer Public Schools and graduated from Homer High School in 1998. Mike's high school counselor suggested studying to become an engineer. He attended Kellogg Community College until he decided that he preferred working with his hands. Mike was always his "own man". Mike worked at Fred's Standard in Marshall as a young man. He then went to school and earned his CDL. Right after that he was contacted by the International Brotherhood Of Electrical Workers Local Union #455 where he had applied for an apprenticeship. Mike served his apprenticeship and earned his Journeyman Electrician's credentials. He has worked with the IBEW Local on various construction projects in the area and served as job foreman on his most recent two jobs with them. With local construction becoming less frequent Mike outfitted a trailer with tools and living quarters and would take jobs in the western states, keeping Homer as his home base. He found he enjoyed the western states and was considering making one of them his home. Mike was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He would make his own jerky and sausage from his venison. He had taken hiking trips to Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Virginia where he enjoyed hiking in the mountains. He loved animals and was accompanied on his trips by his black lab Spot. Mike read and studied the Bible. He was a hard worker who enjoyed working with his hands even off the job, taking on carpentry projects. He also worked on cars. Mike was a good son who enjoyed teasing his mother! Mike is survived by his parents Richard J. "Rick" and Julie Andrews of Homer, 2 sisters Angela M. (Zach) Boettner of Bend, Oregon and Sheryl Brace of Caledonia, Michigan; two nephews Trevor Brace and Isaac Boettner and a niece Talya Boettner, and his paternal grandmother Loretta Andrews of Hickory, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Richard J. Andrews and maternal grandparents George and Marjorie Metternick. Friends may call at Craig K.
