Marion Miller, 86, of Homer, passed away Tuesday, October 15 at Tendercare of Marshall.He was born on February 18, 1927 to Rolland and Rita (Knuth) Miller in Albion Township at home. He married Joan R. Miller August 6, 1950 at the First Congregational Church in Battle Creek.Marion attended Albion Schools and graduated from Washington Gardner High School in 1945. He went on to work at Millers Ice Cream in Eaton Rapids after High School. In 1949 he moved home to work on the family farm, which he has done ever since. During the winter months of 1950-1955 he worked at Union Steel.Marion has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Albion since he was baptized on July 3, 1927 and confirmed on April 6, 1941. He also served as an elder. He is also a member of the Jr. Farm Bureau, Progressive Farmer, Friendship League, the NFO, the MMPA, South Albion Community Club, Albion Community Hospital Service League, American Agriculture Movement, and the Burnham Brook Calhoun County Senior Citizens Club where he liked to dance!Marion enjoyed spending time with family, farming, milking cows, dancing, and playing cards. He loved to travel. Two of his favorite moments were going to the Rose Bowl Parade and the cruise to Alaska with his wife.He is survived by 3 sons, Charles (Paula) Miller, Curt (Karen) Miller, and Chris Miller, all of Homer; 3 daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Irvin of Homer, Carol Miller of Marshall, and Connie (Charlie) Clines of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Gillis and Kristen (Andrew) Sommers both of Homer, Jennifer (Matthew) Sullivan of Marshall, Rebecca (Jason) Fry of Union City, Heather Miller (Alex Smith) of Ceresco, C.J. (Kelsey) Shoemaker of Nashville, Chrystal Shoemaker (Andy Elliott) and Cole Clines of Battle Creek, and Chelsea Shoemaker of Augusta, Michael (Angela) Hackworth and Ali Clines of Florida; 6 great grandchildren, Austin Hackworth, Alaina Fry, Landen Hackworth, Carsten Shoemaker, Clarie Elliott, Kevin Sommers; 2 sisters, Nancy (Jerry) Lawhead and Jean Miller; sister in law, Barbara Brown; and brothers, Roger Miller and Burt Miller.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan R. Miller; and a daughter, Cathy (Miller) Shoemaker.Visitation will be held on Monday, October 21 from 2-4PM & 6-8PM at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, 723 US 27 North, Marshall. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, October 22 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Albion, 100 Luther Blvd., Albion with Pastor Dennis Matyas officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Homer. A luncheon will follow interment at the St. Paul Lutheran Church for family and friends. The family would like memorials in memory of Marion to be made out to St. Paul Lutheran Church ECC or the Albion Township Firefighters Association.
