Lois Mathiak

June 8, 1928 — August 26, 2013

Our dear Mother and Grandmother left this world suddenly on August 26, 2013 to join her beloved husband, Carl, in eternal rest. She is survived by her son, Carl and his wife, Shelley, 2 grandchildren, Dr. Emilie Mathiak (Sarah Schultz) and Trevor Mathiak. Lois was born on June 8, 1928 to Edwin and Jennie Dorr and spent her childhood on the family farm in Merritt MI. After graduating from Central Michigan University she met her husband Carl and they were united in marriage on January 22, 1954. After their marriage, they moved to Memphis, MI where they raised their son and lived for 55 years. Lois began her teaching career in East Jordan MI, and taught typing and business in the Richmond public schools for 40 years where she was proud to send many talented and skilled office professionals on to rewarding careers. After retiring, she went back to teaching the subject in which she excelled and loved at St. Clair County Community College. Countless times former students would express their appreciation to her for her caring and nurturing touch. Lois was a voracious reader and an avid golfer earning a hole-in-one on one of many wonderful golfing trips with her husband to Northern Michigan and Florida, where they wintered. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow and spending time with her family. She was a woman of elegance and grace. Her radiant smile and sweet nature will be forever missed. Also surviving Lois are her sister, Betty Wallace of Florida, a special cousin, Barbara and her husband Melvin Matthews of Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Lois was predeceased by her parents.A private memorial ceremony will be held for Family only. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Assistance with memorial contributions is available at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, PO Box 519, Marshall MI 49068.
