Layne Newsome, 50, of Albion, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2012, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.Layne was born on May 18, 1961, in Marshall to Chester and Tilda (Damron) Newsome. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1979.Layne was working at Courtesy Car and Truck in Tekonsha when we started his long fight with Cancer. He adored is boss Jimmy Swain. Layne also enjoyed working on cars and body work with his brothers.Layne enjoyed long rides in the country, being in the corvette parades with Lynn and Tucker. He also enjoyed being in business with his brother Rocky, riding motorcycles with his brother Ricky, and vacations with his sister Greta. He enjoyed car shows, his classic cars camping and family get to gathers.Layne loved his whole family and spent the last two and half years with the love of his life Ruth Tillar and their furry four legged child Diego. Layne was proud of all his nieces and nephews, his "Little Guys" Hunter and Trevor Mann who he loved like his own grandkids, and spending time with his nephew Tucker. He was truly proud of his niece Hope Newsome who started her own business at the age of 12 Cookies for Cancer. She made 900 dozen cookies and sold them herself when she found out about Layne's cancer to help him pay his medical bills.Layne was a wonderful brother, boyfriend to Ruth, uncle, and friend. He was very brave, strong, and had a lot of courage during his life and his fight with cancer. Layne loved to smile and wave at all friends and strangers because he said, "It may be the only smile they get all day." This was something he learned from his mother. Layne will be missed by all and never be forgotten.Layne and his whole family are very grateful to Ruth Tillar for really loving and taking great care of Layne though all the good and hard times. The family is also very grateful for Pastor Earl Martin for Baptizing Layne at the Free Will Baptist Church of Albion.He is survived by the love of his life Ruth Tillar of Albion, sister Greta (Ron) Caudill of Albion, brothers Ricky (Dorothy Behl) Newsome of Albion, Rocky (Cynthia) Newsome, and Lynn (Jill) Newsome all of Marshall. He is also survived by his nephews, Aaron Newsome, Tucker Newsome, George Arnold, nieces, Nicole Caudill, Jessica Arnold, and Hope Newsome. Great nieces Dakodah and Baileigh Proteau, Zoey Butters, Lily and Nora Arnold, "The Little Guys" Hunter and Treavor Mann, his furry child Diego, God Daughter Kaite Anthony, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-7pm with family present to greet friends from 1-3pm and 5-7pm. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 11am on Monday, February 27, 2012, at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor Earl Martin officiating. A private interment will take place at the Newsome Family Cemetery in Kentucky at a later date. Family requests memorial contributions be made to the family, Oaklawn Hospice or to the Calhoun County Relay for Life. Assistance with memorials is available at the Craig K.
