Kathlyn "Kathy" Maples, 52, of Marshall, died on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at her home.Kathy was born on April 2, 1958, in Detroit to Kenneth and Joan (Heppe) Kohn. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1976, and she attended Kellogg Community College. On May 21, 1980, she married Craig A. Maples in Marshall. He preceded her in death in 1980.Kathy worked as a certified nursing assist for many years. She worked at Battle Creek Health System, Veteran Administration Medical Center, and several different private home care companies. Kathy enjoyed reading, going for walks, watching television.She loved outdoor camping and was crazy about theme parks and roller coasters. Kathy would ride any roller coaster and introduced her niece Ashlee Kohn to the thrill rides at Cedar Point and Disney World. She loved living on the lake watching the water, and sitting in the sun. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her cats, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.She is survived by her son Shaun (Kelley) Maples of Olivet, three grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler, Carly Maples, and her mother Joan Kohn of Marshall. She was preceded in death by her husband, father Kenneth Kohn in 1973, and a brother Keith Kohn in 2001.Family will greet friends on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, from 12noon-1pm at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services with a memorial service taking place at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan or to the Hepatitis C Foundation. Assistance with memorials is available at the Craig K.
