Kathleen Ann Collins, age 77, of Marshall died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 23, 2012.
Mrs. Collins was born on April 18, 1934 in Jonesville, Michigan to Ernest and Doris (Denning) VanCamp. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School, class of 1951.
On July 10, 1955, she married Milo Irving Collins in Jonesville.
Following her graduation, Katie began working at the State Farm Regional Office in Marshall. She worked there for several years, leaving their employment to start raising her children. When her children were grown, she entered the workforce again, taking a position in the accounting department at the Midwest Metallurgical Laboratory in Marshall. She retired in 2002.
She is a member of the Marshall First Baptist Church where she had been a very active member. For several years she attended the Marshall United Methodist Church. Katie had also been a member of the Cheery Chics Extension Club and of several area Square Dancing Clubs. Katie was an avid reader and enjoyed walking in the beautiful country setting of her home. She is remembered by her family as being a wonderful cook and enjoying spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of fifty six years, Milo; daughter, Linda (Donald) Mawer of Frankenmuth, Michigan; son, David (Nancy) Collins of Marshall; grandchildren, Kelly Collins, Kristy Collins, Kyle Collins and Alex Mawer; a great granddaughter, Chloe Collins. She is also survived by sisters, Betty (Mike) Fast of Hillsdale and Rosalind (Paul) Reed of Pittsford; a brother, Jim (Sara) VanCamp of Jonesville; mother-in-law, Pat Collins; brother and sister-in-laws, Doug and Betty Collins, sister and brother-in-laws, Jean and Fred Gordon, and Barb and Bill Haroff; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very dear friend, Freda Hamaker. She was preceded in death by sisters, Eleanor (George) Prosser, Carol (Tom) Hall and Alice VanCamp; a brother, Ernest (Nancy) VanCamp; father-in-law, Milo E. Collins; brother-in-law, Philip "Jim" Grant; a niece, Karen Collins; and a nephew, Larry Sommers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM. A memorial service to celebrate the gift of her life will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Marshall First Baptist Church.
