Karen Sue Ward, 51, of Homer passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 in an automobile accident.
Karen was born August 26, 1962 to Rolland J. and Dorothea "Dottie" R. (Dunn) Face in Midland, Michigan. She attended Marshall Schools and graduated with the Class of 1980. After High School she attended Kellogg Community College and graduated with an Associates in Science degree. From there she went onto Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids where she graduated with a degree in music. Karen also enjoyed playing volleyball and softball during her time there. Karen then went on to join the Army where she earned a degree in Respiratory Therapy. During her time in the Army she was stationed at Fort Sam Houston taking care of burn victims from Desert Storm.
Karen was married to Matthew Ward on December 31, 1988 at the Maple Grove Bible Church in Marshall while on active duty. They had three beautiful children together and shared a lot of moments creating many wonderful memories including Matt's memory of Karen who he came to think of as a warrior while she took care of the children all alone in a 36' RV while he was building their home!
After Karen returned home from the Army she worked as a Respiratory Therapist for several places including Oaklawn Hospital and most currently CareLinc. She loved working with her clients and helping them not only with health, but spiritually as well.
Karen's father will always remember her as his beautiful little girl as well as how strong she was which she showed growing up by standing her ground to her brothers! Her family remembers her as a wonderful singer. Karen and Matt sang to each other at their wedding as well as at others weddings and funerals. She loved horses and showing horses with her daughter, Paige. Karen also loved rescuing cats and nursing them back to health! She lived for her children. Her kids remember her taking them to the beach. They would go to Messenger Lake, Warren Dunes, and Lake Michigan. Karen was involved in all of their activities and they remember her making the long trips to be with them during all of their games. As much as Karen did for everyone else and as much as she had already achieved she was talking about going back to school to become a physician assistant (and to get better at math so she could help with homework Clayton said!).
Karen made a huge impact on everyone around her and she will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Ward of Homer; children, Paige, Devon, and Clayton Ward of Homer; father, Rolland Face of Marshall; brothers, Victor (Karen) Face of Homer and Jeffery (Darcie) Face of Freemont, Indiana; and several close aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothea "Dottie" Face and her grandparents.
