Johnny Shepherd, 81, of Marshall died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the home of his daughter's in Battle Creek following a short illness.Johnny was born on March 8, 1932 in Floyd County, Kentucky to Will and Lula (Hale) Shepherd. On January 29, 1955 he married Jessie A. Young in Detroit. She preceded him in death on March 9, 1993.Johnny worked as a welder for several years for Griswold's retired in 2005 when the plant closed. He also worked for Clark Equipment, Sigma Industries, Brown Industries and Midwest Foundry. Johnny enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working on the tractor in the garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Shepherd of Marshall and Vickie Jones of Battle Creek; sons, Lloyd (Jaymee) Shepherd of Middleville, Clay (Lahoma) Shepherd of North Dakota, Marcus Shepherd of Marshall, Daniel Shepherd of Battle Creek; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Vina Adams of Washington, Emma Moreno, Bill Shepherd, Holbert Shepherd, Earl Shepherd, Laura Jordan, and Jack Shepherd all of Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Daniel Jacob Shepherd; sisters, Alice Briggs, Ruby Arizmendi, and Lila Lewis; brothers, Tommy and Henry Shepherd.Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 5-8pm with family present to greet friends at that time. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 2pm on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Croy officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to the Calhoun County Relay for Life or to the American Lung Association.
