John Corrigan

JOHN DOUGLAS "J.D." CORRIGANJohn Douglas "J.D." Corrigan, age 80, of Marshall died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Oaklawn Hospital.Mr. Corrigan was born on December 4, 1925 in Marshall to John S. and Florence (Baughn) Corrigan. He was a graduate of Marshall High School, class of 1943. John then served in United States Army in the Army Security Agency, during the Post WWII period. J.D. had been employed by the United States Postal Service for 28 years. He started working at the Marshall post office in 1953 and worked there until his retirement in 1981. Prior to that, he had worked at the Kellogg Company in Battle Creek and then for Win Schuler's for a number of years. From 1986 to 1996, he had worked at the Michigan National Bank.He was a member of the Retired Federal Postal Employees. J.D. was a very active volunteer with the Calhoun County Humane Society, serving on the Board of Directors from 1981 to 1990. He headed the "Pencil Drive" for the Humane Society for many years in the Marshall area. He loved to travel, and especially enjoyed New York City. Other memberships included the Battle Creek Y Center and the Irish Club of Battle Creek.He is survived by a sister, Ann E. Corrigan of Marshall; nephews, Robert (Carol) Corrigan, James Corrigan and John (Angela) Corrigan; great niece and nephews, Taylor, Whitney, Ryan and Mathew Corrigan'' sister-in-law, Marian Corrigan; and life long friend, Dave Finley of Michigan Center. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger W. Corrigan.Friends may call at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Calhoun County Humane Society. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
