Joan Marie Miller, age 77, of Marshall died Wednesday morning, January 2, 2008 at Oaklawn Hospital.Mrs. Miller was born on November 26, 1930 in Marshall to Edwin L. and Josephine L. (Engelter) Kinney. She was a graduate of Marshall High School, the class of 1948.On June 5, 1954, she married Frederick William Miller. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2003.Joan loved the community of Marshall. She assisted her husband at the old Miller-Aalbregtse Men's Clothing in downtown Marshall for many years. Other places of employment included Michigan National Bank, Cornwell's Turkeyville USA and Hemmingsen Rexall Drug Store. Joan alsovolunteered her time with the Oaklawn Hospital Auxiliary and at Tendercare of Marshall. She was aMember of the Marshall United Methodist Church and gave of her time freely there.Joan loved to share a cup of coffee with friends. She enjoyed watching movies and spending time with her family.She is survived by a son, Bruce (Cindy) Miller of Marshall; brother, Richard Kinney of Battle Creek; sister, Marlene Cowles of Sierra Vista, AZ; and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Edgar Kinney, Jim Kinney and Steve Kinney.A funeral service to celebrate the gift of her life was held 11:00 am Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home with Reverend Len Schoenherr officiating. Interment followed in Oakridge Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers were Ed Kinney, Jeff Harinck, Bruce Miller, Rick Kinney and Craig Kinney. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Kinney and Riley Smith.Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Marshall United Methodist Church. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
