James Waters

March 5, 1924 — May 23, 2017

James Waters passed away peacefully May 23, 2017 at Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living in Hudsonville, MI where he had been a resident for the past 5+ years. He was born March 5, 1924 in Kokomo, Indiana to Agnes (Anderberg) and Silas Waters. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Louise, sister Helen Waters Carroll, and brothers Ralph, Raymond, Albin and Samuel Waters. After serving in WWII in the US Army Air Corps as a radio operator he made his home in Marshall, MI and soon met the love of his life, Louise; they married on June 15, 1946. After the war he worked at Eaton Corp., then in the mid-50's through the early 60's owned 3 gas stations before returning to Eatons. He retired from Eaton's in 1985. Jim was a member of the VFW Post 4073 and Moose Lodge 676 and the United Methodist Church in Marshall. He spent many enjoyable years restoring antique automobiles and, as always, with Louise touring with various antique motor car clubs. He and Louise also had a lifelong love of dance and belonged to many square & round dance groups through the years and also enjoyed dancing at the Fredonia Grange. He is survived by his sons Larry (Becky) Waters of Jenison, MI and Gary (Kat) Waters of Manteca, CA; his daughter Kerry Lynn Waters of Wyoming, MI; grandsons Andy Waters of Cedar Springs, MI and Jordon Waters of Turlock, CA; granddaughters Edee (Ben) Flanders of Jenison, MI, Julie Waters of Stockton, CA, and Jackie (Anthony) Watercaster of Tracy, CA; and three great-grandsons Jackson, Henry & Charlie Flanders of Jenison, MI. Donations in his memory may be made to the Fountain Street Clinic in Marshall. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are requested to the Fountain Clinic. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home.
