George K. Goheen

George K. Goheen, 80, of Marshall passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan surrounded by his loving family.George was born on September 8, 1933 in Burlington, Michigan to Fred S. and Lulu (Trine) Goheen. The family moved to Tekonsha, Michigan where he attended school and played baseball. George graduated with the Tekonsha High School Class of 1951. A few years later he joined the United States Army where he served from 1953-1955.George met Martha Peeler who captured his heart and they were married on June 3, 1956 in Greenwood Springs, Mississippi. The two had three wonderful children together. They just recently celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary. George was a printer and foreman for various folding carton companies for 43 years. He retired in 1993.George was a family man who was also loved very much by all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His grandson, Jacob Gates, wrote the following about his grandfather and the family felt that this said it all about him, "God rest my Papa George, who passed away today. He was a kind, funny, tough, sensitive, sweet, wonderful man who loved music and babies and poems and baseball."He is survived by his wife, Martha Goheen of Marshall; daughter, Cynthia (Dave) Walker of Florida; sons, Tim (Elaine) Goheen of Ohio and Kevin (Paula) Goheen of North Carolina; grandchildren, Jacob (Melissa) Gates of Lansing, Alexander Lawrence of Florida, Israel (Chris) Fishel, Rachel (Kyle) Rook, Anna Goheen and Evelyn Goheen all of North Carolina, Elizabeth McCusker and Dean Walker of Florida; great twin grandchildren, Jonas and Clara Gates of Lansing; sister Lillian Provow of Missouri; brothers, Kenneth (Dorothy) Goheen and Glenn (Ruth) Goheen all of Battle Creek; sister in laws, Jenny Goheen and Jackie Goheen both of Coldwater; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frederick and his wife, Betty, Joseph and Chester; and a sister, Jeanette.Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 5-7PM at the Craig K. Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Marshall Chapel, 723 US 27 North, Marshall. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00AM at the funeral home with Pastor Andrew Pomerville of Peoples Church of Lansing officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha. A luncheon will be held at the Kempf Funeral Home Reception Hall in Marshall following the burial. Memorials in memory of George can be made out to the Lyon Lake United Methodist Church or to the Augusta Custer VFW 7956. Assistance is available at the funeral home.
