Eva Powers, 99, of Marshall formerly of Saint Ignace, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at her home.Mrs. Powers was born on January 10, 1911, in Garden Island, Michigan to Peter and Christine (Peane) Wabaganese. On December 16, 1929, she married Emmet Powers in Manistee. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1969.Mrs. Powers moved to Marshall with her family in 1962. She worked in housekeeping at Oaklawn Hospital for many years. Prior to moving to Marshall, she worked as a cook at Homestead Cafe, and Nicolet Hotel Restaurant in Saint Ignace. Mrs. Powers was a member of the Saint Ignace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and being out in the woods. She loved gardening, sewing, quilting, knitting and making black ash baskets. Mrs. Powers especially enjoyed knitting hats and donating them to the charitable union for the homeless or to the hospital for the new born babies.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dell and Pam Powers of Newaygo, twin daughters Doris and Dorothy Powers both of Marshall and Saint Ignace. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Pauline McNeely, infant son Gary Powers, son-in-law Gilbert McNeely, two grandsons Gibby McNeely, and Steven McNeely, and a sister Ann Belanger.Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Wednesday with family present from 5-7pm. Visitation will take place at the Dodson Funeral Home, 240 McCann Street, Saint Ignace, MI 49781 on Friday with family present from 5-7pm. Funeral services celebrating her life will take place at 11am on Saturday at the Saint Ignace United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Saint Ignace. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home.
