Jim was born on May 14, 1934 in Charlotte to David and Evelyn (Bursley) Hamilton. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1952. On March 27, 1959, he married Carolyn Baxter in Olivet. She survives.
Jim was a truck driver for several years as a testing engineer. He worked for Darling Freight, C &J Trucking, Suburban Motor Freight, Crandall Brothers Trucking, Eaton's and Dana Corporation. Along with driving truck, Jim farmed in the area his whole life. He also hauled milk for local dairy farmers. He enjoyed farming, showing horses and going to horse shows. Jim was a very active member of the Calhoun County Agriculture Industrial Society where he served on many different offices on the board. Jim was a familiar face at the Calhoun County Fair for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Carolyn of Convis Township; children Lori (Mike) Murphy and Mark Hamilton all of Marshall; two grandchildren, James Hamilton of Marshall and Eric (Kinsey) Hamilton of Sioux Falls South Dakota; brother, David (Sylvia) Hamilton; three nieces and three nephews; and sister-in-law Bonnie (Larry) Baxter of Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family will gather with friends on Saturday May 20, 2017 from 1-5pm with a celebration of life service taking place at 2:30pm with Mr. Jacob Washburn officiating. Memorial contributions in Jim's memory are requested to the Calhoun County Relay for Life. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home.
