Ernest James Lien, 90 of Marshall died on Tuesday April 18, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor following a short illness.

Ernest was born on April 17, 1927 in Lily, South Dakota to Bertin and Clara (Peterson) Lien. He attended country schools in South Dakota. He served in the US Army during the Korea Conflict. On June 25, 1951 he married Leona L. Springer in Belton, Texas.

Ernest worked for the Corning Glass for 25 years, and after the plant closed, he worked for Bostick in Marshall until he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid mechanic and would fix several small engines for people who need the help. Ernest enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making yearly trips to South Dakota to visit family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Leona of Marshall; son Gary of Marshall; grandchildren Ryan and Tyler;daughter-in-law Patty (late Alan) Lien grandchildren, Jennifer and James;and a sister Doreen Christensen. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Alan in 2016 and Dale in infancy; brothers, Milton, Kermit, and Ralph; and sisters, Bernice Bock, Dela Montana, and Leona Fitchner.

Visitation will take place at the Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Marshall Chapel 723 US 27 North on Sunday April 23, 2017 from 1-7pm with family present to greet friends from 1-3pm and 5-7pm. Funeral services will take place at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark, South Dakota.
