Elbert Marshall, age 70, of Marshall died Tuesday, April 25, 2011 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.Mr. Marshall was born on July 27, 1940 in Ivyton, Kentucky to Ernie and Mary (Barnett) Marshall. He has been a resident of the Marshall area since the early 1990's moving here from Coldwater. While living in the Coldwater area he had been employed at Shaw Shoes, Quality Spring Company and R B & W Manufacturing. Following his move to Marshall, he continued to stay busy by delivering newspapers for the Battle Creek Enquirer. During the Vietnam War, El served in the United States Army.On January 5, 1962, he married the former Betty Lou Callahan in Coldwater.Mr. Marshall was a familiar sight on the streets of Marshall riding around on his mobility scooter. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending as much time on the water as possible. He was a favorite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews and it was a special treat to go fishing with Uncle El. When his children were young, he served as a little league baseball coach. He was a former member of the Marshall Moose Lodge.He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Anne Marie (Mark) Burnash of St. Johns, Michigan and Debbie Lynn Marshall of Bronson; son, Elbert Dean (Shelly Williams) Marshall of Marshall; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur Marshall of CA and Clifford Marshall of Marshall; sisters, Allie Bennett of Marshall, Curgie Language of Battle Creek, Stella Hobbs of Marshall and Geraldine Spindlow of Battle Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Timothy Marshall; grandchildren Nikia Marshall and Autumn Marshall; brothers, Steve Marshall and Hobart Marshall; sisters, Helen Mains, Virgie Sparks, Maxine Lee and Edna Lux.The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall. Family and friends will gather at 1:30 PM Friday, April 29, 2011 at Fort Custer National Cemetery for a graveside service.Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Elbert Marshall Memorial Fund.
