Duane Slayton, 67, of Ceresco died, Friday, October 8, 2010, at his home.Duane was born on March 31, 1943, in Battle Creek to Richard and AdaMay (Binger) Slayton. He graduated from Harper Creek High School in 1961. He lived in the Ceresco area his whole life. On June 29, 1979, he married Cheri White in Marshall. She survives.Duane worked for the Eaton Corporation for 39 years. He also worked for the Railroad, Michigan Carton, and Ray Farms in Ceresco. He was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge #676, NSRA, and the NRA. Duane enjoyed NASCAR, street rod, motorcycles, going to the casino, playing cards and doing the daily Sudoku puzzles. He also enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter.He is survived and loved by his devoted wife and best friend of 33 years Cheri of Ceresco, children Julie (Terry) Thompson, Karen Willet, Diane Nilson, Brent (Nicole) Slayton, grandchildren Timothy Nilson, Joshua Thompson, Victoria Thompson, Callie Slayton, and Myla Slayton. He is also survived by his father Richard Slayton, brothers Bill (Pat) Slayton, Ed (Sally) Slayton, sisters Joyce (Allen) Sutfin, Deb (Bob) Beltz, sister-in-law Judy (Mike) Slayton-Bird, extended family Marion White, Bev Smith, Jim and Mary Whiting, Chuck and Sue White, Gene and Carol Tucker, Larry White, Vicki Russell, and former wife Carol Wilson Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother AdaMay Slayton, brother Rick Slayton, Sister Eudora (Dorrie) Slayton-Gregg, extended family Charles White, and Irvin (Pink) Smith.Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Monday from 2-8pm with family present to greet friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 11am on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Savolo officiating. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Family request memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society Calhoun County Relay for life Team Family Ties.
