Duane "Wayne" Gill, age 77, of Marshall, died at Oaklawn Hospital Thursday evening, April 5, 2007, where he was taken after being stricken at his home. Duane was born Dec. 5, 1929 in Marengo Township at his parent''s home to Aubrey James and Mary (Dunnett) Gill. He grew up in Marengo Village , and attended Albion schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He worked for the former A & P Company at their grocery store in Marshall. In 1965, he went to work for Eaton Corporation in Marshall, where he worked until his retirement in 1985. Duane was married to Julie A. Twichell on September 17, 1951 in Angola, Indiana. The couple have lived in Marshall since their marriage. Duane was a 45 year member of Marshall''s First Baptist Church. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge #20 F & AM. He enjoyed golfing and formerly bowled on Marshall leagues . Duane and Julie enjoyed winters in Zephyr Hills , Florida for many years after he retired. The couple also camped many summers at the Waffle Farm, where Duane fished with his grandchildren, often being willingly recruited to both bait the hook and remove the catch for them! Surviving are his wife, Julie; their son, Robert D. (Melanie) Gill of Charlotte; 5 grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Collard of Clarkston, Amy (Jaime) Beattie of Marshall, Krista (Mike) Krake of Yorkville, IL, Christopher Gill of Ypsilanti, and Jennifer (Tim) Hurtt of Battle Creek; and 7 great- grandchildren. Duane was preceded in death by his daughter Brenda K. Cook on Feb. 13, 2000. He also was preceded by his six brothers, James, Walter, Reginald, Douglas, Robert and Harold Gill. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Saturday from 5PM to 8PM, where the family will be present to receive friends and share memories.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11AM at Kempf Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Davis of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment Oakridge Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the National Brain Tumor Association. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf Funeral Home.
