Obituary

Dorothea E. â,"Dotâ, Waidelich, age 94, of Marshall, died at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008.

Dot was born on December 27, 1913 in Detroit to Frederick and Augusta (Fischer) Doletzke. She attended school in Detroit and graduated from the Lutheran high school near her home. There she learned to speak German.

She was married on January 5, 1946 in Detroit to William G. â,"Mooseâ, Waidelich. The couple made their home in his home town of Marshall where she has spent the rest of her life. The couple raised their family together here and for many years ran the Coffee Pot Restaurant on W. Michigan Avenue. Moose preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1977. Dot continued to own and operate the restaurant until retiring in 1980. After that her family continued to run it for many years.

After her retirement Dot enjoyed working at the East End Laundry on E. Michigan Avenue . She still liked to have her son Tom take her there for visits.

Dot was a â,"people personâ, who enjoyed being with people and helping them. Going to family reunions every year was something she looked forward to with great enthusiasm. She liked to cook and her family and friends (and customers!) were the fortunate beneficiaries of many delicious home cooked meals. Dot enjoyed doing needlework projects. She knitted bonnets for newborns for Dr. Mark Richardson and baby sweaters for the United Methodist Church.

Traveling was something else Dot liked to do with her family. Trips to the family cottage in northern Michigan were favorite memories for her. She frequently spent time with her son and his companion Katie Mains. Katieâ,"s mother Mary Mains became fast friends with Dot as they both spent time doing things with Tom and Katie. Dot remained an active and independent woman until this past Sunday when she was taken ill.

Surviving are 3 sons Thomas R. (Katie Mains) Waidelich , Bruce A. (Roxie) Waidelich and Glen H. (Wanda) Waidelich all of Marshall; a daughter Betty L. Waidelich of Monroe, Louisiana; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews . She was preceded in death by a son at eight months of age William G. Waidelich Jr. in 1948, a daughter Donna Barnes in 1995, 3 sisters Alma Zang, Elsie Hartwig, and Lillian Holmes and 3 brothers Edward, Harold and Gottfried Doletzke.
