Donna Jean Kolodica, age 60, of Albion, died on Thursday afternoon, July 18, 2013 at University Of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor surrounded by the loving presence of her family.
Donna was born on October 17, 1952 in Eaton Rapids to Frederick and Mildred (Towns) Jackson. She graduated from Springport High School in 1970.
She was first married to Dennis Hiither with whom she had Jeffery and Cami. The result of that marriage was an extended family with whom she stayed in close contact with and loved dearly.
Donna was married on June 30, 1980 to James R. "Jim" Kolodica at the Griffith Church in Springport. The couple have enjoyed their years together and were good and loving partners.
She was Deputy City Clerk for the City Marshall, working at City Hall for 17 years until ill health forced her retirement in 2007. She loved her work and the many friends she made there. One of Donna's main job functions was to set up and run every election "from dog catcher to president"!
Prior jobs were representing a Home Interior company from her home, as a nurse's aide at Marshall Manor, was a realtor for Century 21 Realtors in Marshall, and as a bookkeeper for Thomas Solvent Company in Battle Creek.
Donna attended Jackson Community College where she studied drafting. She was quite artistic by nature and could design, sketch and lay out Jim and her homes, and home projects over the years.
She was an excellent seamstress. Donna was skilled in caning chairs and furniture upholstery. She was at her best and happiest when she was alone with her flowers "playing in the dirt".
Donna's family and friends would often bring their troubles to her. She had a kind and calm way of working through the problem and giving good advice.
Surviving Donna are her family, her husband Jim, her children Jeff and Sue Hiither of Albion, Cami and John Millsap of Marshall, and Jeff Bell of Riverside, CA, her grandchildren Megan Neeley, Sarah (Neeley) Shippell, Elizabeth Hiither, Desa Hiither, Michael Brannon, Courtney Brannon, Zack Brannon, Taylor Bell and Ashley Cook; her mother Mildred Jackson of Charlotte; her brother Dennis (Sally) Jackson of Albion and sisters Diane (Jack) Morris and Sharon (Harvey) Pettit all of Eaton Rapids; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Frederick Jackson.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 25, at 3:30PM at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home , 723 US27 N. in Marshall.
Memorials are suggested to James Kolodica to help defray Donna's medical expenses. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home.
