Charles William Dornton, age 90, of East Leroy, MI passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.He was born on May 11, 1927 in Battle Creek the son of William and Melissa (Finley) Dornton. He was an Athens High School graduate. Charles proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. Before he was deployed to the Philippines he was employed with Kellogg's and remained with the company for 44 years until retirement.Charles was happily married for 44 years to Maxine (Powell-Fox) Dornton, and together were members of Family Altar Chapel. Charles was married to his first wife, Coyla Genevieve (West) Dornton for 25 years and together had four children. Sadly, Coyla passed away due to a long illness in 1973.Charles was a member of the Kellogg's 25 year club. He enjoyed leading people to the Lord, hunting, mostly around his property; he went fishing to Canada and all around Michigan. Charles loved watching old western movies, the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Pistons.Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Maxine; children, Barbara (John) Geiger of IN., Bill (Becki) Dornton of Battle Creek, Cindy (Jerry) Ledford of Raleigh NC, Julie (Jim) Lawrence of Battle Creek; and Larry (Irene) Fox of Battle Creek; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and brother, George (Pat) Dornton. He was preceded in death by Coyla Genieve (West) Dornton; William and Melissa Dornton; Ina Mae Dornton and Lezetta Barney; and Lana Fox.Funeral services will be held at Family Altar Chapel on Saturday July 1, 2017 at 1:00pm with Pastor Travis Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Battle Creek Chapel, 2838 SW Capital Ave., in Battle Creek.Memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or Samaritan's Purse.
