Kris Keith Waito

April 29, 1951 — June 3, 2018

It is with heavy hearts, yet in thanksgiving that we announce the homegoing of Kris Keith Waito, (67) who passed on June 3, 2018 at Glen Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, MI after transitioning from his 3-year residency at Pathways Masonic Home in Alma, MI.
Previous to his health decline he was a proud, lifetime resident of Albion, MI, born on April 29, 1951. Kris enlisted in the National Guard soon after high school. Kris joined the family business soon after boot camp, where he worked with his father Keith and only sibling Ken. He then married his high school sweetheart Linda in which he gained 7 more sisters and brothers and extended his own family like clockwork gaining 3 daughters every 22 months.
He spent some of his spare time hanging at Harrison Field playing with Waito Plumbing and heating softball league which attained many family members. He played a few rounds of golf and tossed in the alley for a few as well. Kris was always active doing, changing or fixing something that was never really broke. He enjoyed putzing around the house or shop, going for walks, cruising around country roads, making driveby visits with his friends, frequent coffee breaks, woodworking, hunting (of course not to really get a deer) and thought more often about dropping a line in the lake to catch a big one. He was quite a nostalgic kind of man, he cherished old photos, postcards and buttons along with memorabilia of all sorts. He was intrigued with old movies and history and enjoyed a haunted story too. His later years were spent leaned back with a remote watching HGTV with Linda, eating popcorn or butter pecan ice cream with saltines; yes, he learned to share all with his grandchildren. He was a lifetime Mason and active member of Albion Mason Lodge 124. In his earlier years held membership with Elks and Shriners. He was a parishioner at St. James Episcopal Church where he was proud to work with his father Keith spending many hours restoring the altar and bell surround. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughters Rachelle Gamble (David), Heather Ruff (Allan), Erica Waito (significant other Jason Pompey); his 7 grandchildren, Broghan, Mason, Morgan, Gentry, Aliza, Alexandra, and David II; His brother Ken Waito (Janine); a host of nieces, nephews and sisters and brothers-in-law, and cousins whom all are celebrating his life knowing he will be with those who have gone before him; His departed parents, Keith and Mary Jane (Warson) Waito and in-laws Orvil and Mary Jane (Mills) Miller and many aunts and uncles all of whom are all awaiting a reunion at the gates.
Friends who wish may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Masonic Pathways of Michigan, and Heartland Hospice or Glen Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. Memorials may be made by visiting the charities website and clicking on the donation button or by picking up an envelope at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Kempf Family Funeral Home, Marshall Chapel from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Marshall United Methodist Church with Reverend Matt West officiating. Interment will take place at Albion Memory Gardens later.
