Kathleen F. "Kay" Bossard

Kathleen F. "Kay" Bossard, 96, of Marshall died on March 26, 2018 at the Arbor Hospice residence in Saline following a short illness.
Kay was born on June 24, 1921 to Earl and Winifred (McCarthy) Francisco in Marshall. She attended Saint Mary Catholic Grade School, Saint Mary Academy in Monroe, and graduated from Marshall High School in 1939. She then attended the Borgess Hospital School of Nursing from where she earned her Registered Nurse training.
After graduating from Borgess, she worked for Dr. Homer Stryker as his Surgical Nurse and served as the Industrial Nurse at Great Lakes Stove Company in Detroit until enlisting in the United States Navy Corps. Kay was Stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois and Farragut, Idaho.
On September 8, 1945, she was married to Captain Wilmot H. "Bud" Bossard at the Farragut Navy Base chapel in Farragut, Idaho, uniting both member of the "Greatest Generation". After their honorable discharges, the couple returned to Marshall where they made their home and raised their family. Bud preceded her in death on July 28, 2008.
Kay continued to serve her community as a Registered Nurse by working part time at Oaklawn Hospital and the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was the Industrial Nurse at Hayes Albion Corporation until her retirement.
She was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church. When her sons were young she was active as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts and in the Mother's Club. Kay enjoyed working in her flowers. She exercised faithfully by walking and swimming. Time with her grandchildren was always most enjoyed. Bud and Kay were wonderful dance partners and enjoyed attending many area dances over the years. One of the most memorable events in Kay's Life was attending the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. with many of the nurse's she served with during World War II.
She is survived by her sons, Alan R. "Rick" (Teresa) Bossard of Ann Arbor and William E. "Bill" (Pamela) Bossard of Liberty Township, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jason Bossard of Ann Arbor, Adrienne (Matt) Hunwick of Dexter, Tony Bossard of Huston, Texas, Jennifer (Jeff)Pelltier of Columbus, Ohio, and Steven Bossard of Palm Dessert California; a great-grandson Henry Hunwick.
Family will greet friends on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Marshall Chapel, 723 US 27 North from 4:30pm-6:00 PM with family present to greet friends at that time. A Funeral services celebrating her life will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday March 30, 2018 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services with Reverend Father Craig Lusk officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to Saint Mary Catholic Church or to the Fountain Clinic. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
