David J. VandenHeede, 77, of Marshall died on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Whispering Meadows Adult Foster Care surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Mr. Vandenheede was born on September 8, 1940 in Marshall to Charles and Marjorie (Rogers) VandenHeede. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1959. On December 12, 1982 he married Myra "Micky" L. Harrington (Ekdahl) in Battle Creek. She survives.
Mr. VandenHeede retired from the Kellogg Company in 1993 after working there 36 years. He also farmed in Marengo Township his whole life. Mr. VandenHeede enjoyed golfing, traveling across the country, and serving his community being on the Marengo Township Board of Review. He especially enjoyed spending time with his large family.
He is survived by his wife, Myra "Micky" of Marshall; children, Phillip (Kathie) Harrington of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Lisa (Bill) Walters of Marshall, Todd (fiancé Holly LaPlante) VandenHeede of Battle Creek, Brent (fiancé Leslie Booth) VandenHeede of Marshall, Craig (Carolyn) VandenHeede of Marshall, and Steven (Jennifer) Harrington of Marshall; grandchildren, Katherine Harrington, Anna Harrington, Jamie Boone, David (Amanda) Walters, Mathew (Megan) Walters, Coel VandenHeede, Luke (Jennifer) Pratt, Josh Pratt, and Amilia Adams; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; brothers John (Lucy) VandenHeede of Niles, Tim (Pat) VandenHeede of Marshall, Tom (Will Keifer) VandenHeede of Marshall; sister Charlotte West of Carbondale, Illinois; his special sister-in-law, JoAnn Kokesh; and a devoted friend, Paul Schmidt.
Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Marshall Chapel 723 US 27 North. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 11a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Marshall Chapel with Pastor Kathleen and Shawn Loughrige officiating. Family will gather with friends in the Kempf Funeral Home Reception Hall for lunch following the services. Memorial contributions are requested to St. Jude Children Hospital or to Cross Roads Church (CCM). Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
